Get Your Classroom Ready for Fall Now

June 19, 2017

Before you know it, you’ll be enjoying some well-earned time to relax this summer! Here are five ways you can work to get your classroom ready for back to school before you leave for the summer. Now we know that you’ll be putting in hours over the summer too, but why not set yourself up for success and relaxation from the beginning?

1. Plan your bulletin boards

When you have free time over the summer don’t just decorate for the first day of school, but organize and prepare bulletin board themes and decorations for the rest of the year as well.

2. Post a cheery sign with your name outside the door

If your school has an open house for next year’s students, make sure that your room is clearly labeled. Make the sign with your name welcoming, giving a great first impression of what they can expect from you. If you have class lists finalized, post it clearly outside your door so they know they’re in the right place!

3. Reorganize & deep clean

All teachers know that a busy school year full of curious minds can wreak havoc on your perfectly organized bins and labeling systems. Take some time to do some light cleaning and reorganizing to get everything put back in its place and free of dust and grime. You can even put your students in charge of cleaning up their own desk before leaving at the end of the year. You’ll be glad you took the time when it comes time to do lesson plans and everything that has to wait until fall.

4. Touch base with your students

Hearing from a past or future teacher can mean the world to both students and parents over the summer. Show your past or future group of students you are thinking about them and write them a letter or postcard. If you’re writing to future students, tell them how excited you are to be their teacher. Writing to past students? Tell them how proud you are and remind them to keep reading over the summer!

5. Make a school supply list for next year

Did you get halfway through the year and realize you left off an important item on your students’ supply list? While your needs and your students’ needs are fresh in y our mind, jot them down!
